Produce 1.5Mt/y of SAF by 2030
Terms of the action or commitment
Biofuels emit over their life cycle less than 50% CO2e compared to their fossil equivalents (in accordance with European standards) and therefore represent an element of the decarbonization of liquid fuels. TotalEnergies’ current biofuel production capacity of TotalEnergies is 500 kt/year, mainly from the Mède refinery in France. Among biofuels, TotalEnergies is putting a priority on producing Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) to decarbonize the aviation industry. Other decarbonization options besides biodiesel are available for road transportation, notably electricity. TotalEnergies is involved in a number of initiatives to produce and market SAF, in partnership with companies in the aviation sector.
TotalEnergies’ objective is to produce 1.5Mt/y of SAF by 2030.
TotalEnergies has stopped the supply of palm oil (and derivatives) as feedstock and aims to increase the share of waste (used cooking oil, animal fats) used for SAF production to 75% by 2024.
